PARTS & TOOLS FAQ
Are Hammer Depot parts the best priced?
Yes and No! Often our parts are the best priced. Sometimes they are more expensive. We only supply quality parts. Cheaper parts, metal, rubber, plastic are often sub-standard. They are made of inferior material and often the tolerances or integrity are not correct. Low-quality parts do not last as long as quality parts especially in hydraulic hammers. Hydraulic hammers have to do a tough job. Parts and seals in hammers take a lot of daily punishment whilst the hammer is pounding away at rock or concrete. Premature failure can result in down time and often cause serious hammer damage. The price of parts also depends on the brand and model of the hammer. Good quality hammers have good quality expensive parts in them. It’s best to replace any parts with good quality parts only. If we have to bring in parts especially for you this can also add to the expense.
I bought parts from another dealer and they don’t fit correctly but he assures me the parts he supplied are correct. Can you help me on this matter?
Yes and no. We cannot get involved with talking to another dealer on your behalf even if you feel frustrated. You must resolve the matter directly with the dealer where you purchased the parts. We will be impartial and if we can identify the problem, we will advise you what we think is wrong and why. Sometimes with hammers, it’s nobody’s fault. It can be a bit of a minefield with the same model of hammer having different parts due to upgrades and different flow options. If you aquired your hammer used, it may be posible that the previous owner altered the hammer or put a different flow version set of parts into the hammer unknowingly and the serial number on the hammer will not give you this information. Give us all the info you can and maybe a few measurements and we will try our best to identify what’s gone wrong and maybe even how best to put it right. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have a lot of experience in this field and we will try and identify the problem for you.
Do you repair damaged parts?
No, if your parts are damaged you maybe able to have them repaired but it’s a big risk you take. If a piston is chromed, it may work fine for a while or it may even work fine for longer but you run the risk of the chrome pealing off and causing damage to the hammer – or worse still, your excavator. Chucks are expensive and minor damage can be repaired but for major failures, it’s better to buy a new chuck housing.
How do I order parts from The Hammer Depot?
Call us and give us as much information as possible. Please give us the brand and model and – if you have it – also the part number. If you do not have part number, we will try and assist as best we can. We may fax you a parts breakdown and ask you to identify the part number you require. We may ask you for the full serial number and year of your hammer and also other numbers and markings.
Hammer tool bits vary so much in price, why is this?
Hammer tool bits are made from differing Steel Alloys that are put through a complex heat treatment process. The price varies depending on the grade and quality of steel used. Tool performances can vary dramatically. Hammer tools are subjected to very high repeated shock waves. In a typical working week, your hammer bit will be hit over 1.6 million times by the hammer piston. Cheap tools with incorrect properties can lead to increase wear of tool bushings, impact rings, thrust rings and cause pitting and chipping to the piston face. It’s better to pay a little more for a tool now rather than pay for expensive hammer repairs later.
We have several hammers and sometimes we don’t have all details to hand.
When ordering parts, sometimes the job sites call in for what they need. We will try and get as much information as possible and ship out the parts you require. If we feel there may be a problem as the information is insufficient, then we will contact your main office to try and verify. If you wish, you can register your company details online – complete with a list of all hammers you operate with serial numbers and your equipment numbers – so that we have full info on hand. Please go to the Register My Hammer section of this site.
