Hammer Lubrication

The power cell on hydraulic hammers has an ‘oil side’ and an ‘air side’.

The ‘wet side’ internal parts on most hydraulic hammers do not require additional lubrication as they are bathed in the excavators hydraulic oil when operated.

In order to protect your hammer and your excavator it is very important that you have clean hydraulic oil at all times.

Hammer Grease

The ‘air side’ has no hydraulic oil and requires external lubrication to protect the tool bit,tool retainers and the bushings.Do not use regular grease for this purpose. The stresses, moment loads and the extreme temperatures involved dictate the use of a grease with special properties enabling it to give sufficient protection to your hammer.

The Hammer Depot sells a Hammer Grease (Paste) that is specially formulated to protect your hammer and to greatly improve tool life.
